Therapists at the CSPJ currently offer psychotherapy for individuals, families, couples and people in polyamorous relationships.

Psychotherapy

Sexual challenges are one of the leading causes of dissatisfaction in romantic relationships. We have training and experience helping couples and people in polyamorous relationships overcome these hurdles.  Therapists at the CSPJ have worked with clients experiencing pelvic pain, erectile dysfunction, low sexual desire, out of control sexual behavior and difficulty experiencing orgasm. We are kink-aware professional and are comfortable talking with people about their interest in and exploration of kink and BDSM.

Sex Therapy

Coming into an understanding of your authentic gender identity or sexual orientation can be both an exciting and difficult time. We specialize in working with LGBTQ people in all stages of this journey. We can support you through exploring your identity, provide assistance gaining access to needed medical services for gender transition, and help you navigate the coming out process. Therapy can also be beneficial for partners, parents, children and other loved ones of a person in transition, and our therapists also run groups for partners and families with trans and nonbinary loved ones. We also see many clients who are looking for therapy for other reasons but would like to work with a provider who understands their queer or trans identity.

Gender Affirming Therapy

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a specialized kind of treatment designed to help overcome traumatic and adverse experiences, including traumatic grief and loss. If you are healing from a painful experience we may recommend you use EMDR to help you recover in ways that talk therapy alone cannot achieve. EMDR can be used for (but is not limited to) living through childhood abuse, witnessing or being in an accident or natural disaster, losing a loved one, surviving domestic violence, and getting over anxieties and phobias. Madeline Nussbaum is trained in EMDR as well as other therapeutic techniques that can help you move beyond trauma and into a fuller and more satisfying life.

EMDR

We are currently offering two groups cosponsored by our partner organization, Translate Gender.

The Translate Gender Family Group is a place for parents and family members of nonbinary and trans children to come together and share successes, experiences, and challenges in the struggle to create a gender-affirming environment for their children, both at home and in communities. This group is designed to aid caregivers in creating larger networks of supports and resources, and welcomes caregivers and family members of children ages 3 - 17. This group is an open-ended family therapy group that includes all members of trans families (caregivers/parents, trans/nonbinary children, their siblings, grandparents and extended community).

The Translate Gender Couples Group is a closed group for trans and gender nonconforming people and their partners. The group meets with the couples all together one month and then in the following month the partners split into two groups: the trans/gnc individuals meet one night and their partners meet separately on a different night. Meeting using this structure allows for more dialogic and expansive exploration of new territory related to relationship, transition, family and anything that might be salient in the lives of the couples.

Please email Shannon Sennott for more information about groups.

The founders and co-directors of the CSPJ (Davis, Madeline, and Shannon) offer clinical supervision and consultation for therapists seeking to deepen their clinical practices. Supervision is oriented around the social justice tenants of our mission, and we offer specific supervision in the topics of gender, sexuality, sex therapy, and couple’s counseling. Supervision can take place in person or via videoconference, and supervision hours may be counted for licensure in social work. Please email the individual supervisor you are interested in working with for fees and more information.
